What I think about when I am feeling crazy...

I wish that I could have
bottled their giggles
when they were small
and collected all of their handprints
from each windowpane.
If I could have done this,
I would take them out gently
whenever I need to,
and spread them across everything.
Then, I would find such joy
in remembering.
But I have no giggles
or handprints
to hold or to scatter,
and remembering is somewhat bittersweet,
for home will never be
the same without
the sound of their laughter
and the gift of their presence spilling out from every room.
